Supreeya Shrinath Criticizes BJPs Contribution to National Symbols

New Delhi, August 18: Congress leader Supreeya Shrinath has asserted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made no contributions to the national flag, anthem, or song of India. In her remarks, she also responded to comments made by HD Kumaraswamy regarding Sonia Gandhi and expressed her views on the Vande Mataram controversy.

Speaking to a news agency, Shrinath stated that there is no real controversy surrounding Vande Mataram, but rather two differing ideologies. One ideology follows the advice of Rabindranath Tagore, which included figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel, Jawaharlal Nehru, Subhas Chandra Bose, and Babu Rajendra Prasad. Tagore had suggested adopting two stanzas, which were recognized as the national song under the Constitution in 1950.

She contrasted this with the ideology of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who has been criticized for using pellet guns against protesting students. “For us, the choice is clear: do we want to follow Tagore’s advice or that of Home Minister Shah?” she stated. Shrinath emphasized that the Congress party will determine how the national song is played at its events, asserting that no national symbol can be imposed on anyone. The national song was meant to unite people, and that was Tagore’s intention. She urged the BJP not to lecture them on patriotism, claiming that the party has zero contributions to the national flag, anthem, or song.

In response to BJP MP Kangana Ranaut’s comparison of Congress leaders to Pakistan, Shrinath remarked, “The BJP does not take seriously the individual you are referring to. What response should I give to their questions? I pray to God for their health and suggest they consult a good doctor, as their condition seems to be deteriorating.”

Shrinath also countered Kumaraswamy’s comments about Sonia Gandhi’s Italian heritage, stating that the BJP engages in the lowest form of politics. “I have seen more Indianness in Sonia Gandhi than in any other woman. She has raised her children, Rahul and Priyanka, with a sense of patriotism,” she added.
