Ranchi, August 16: BJP spokesperson Sandeep Verma raised concerns over police actions against protesting students in Ranchi. He described the attempts to forcibly remove student leaders from their hunger strike as “disgraceful and inappropriate.”
Verma alleged that the administration’s use of force, including baton charges, was conducted under the current government’s guidance. He called for a CBI investigation into the alleged irregularities in the JPSC examination and demanded its cancellation.
He stated, “If student leaders who have been on hunger strike wish to leave, they should be allowed to do so. The way the administration treated them is condemnable. However, one cannot expect much from a government that ordered baton charges on students during the assembly siege and attempted to forcibly remove them from their protest site at night. This is a disgraceful act.”
Verma further emphasized that the administration should act impartially. He noted that the baton charge was executed under the current government’s direction, and the treatment of Devendra Mahto by the police likely stemmed from orders from higher authorities. He believes that the entire state stands with the student movement, which seeks justice. “What is the difficulty in providing justice? There is corruption in every examination today,” he added.
He also mentioned that the resignations of the chairman and three members of the JPSC indicate the validity of the allegations. He insisted that if students are demanding a CBI inquiry, it should be conducted. Despite the prolonged protests, the 14th JPSC examination has yet to be cancelled, and he urged the Soren government to discuss this matter in their cabinet.
