State Paving the Path to Self-Reliance Through Solar Power
Jaipur, November 8 (Udaipur Kiran) — Rajasthan is fast emerging as India’s solar powerhouse, with over 11,000 megawatts (MW) of solar energy projects set to be commissioned by next year. The state is playing a crucial role in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national target of producing 500 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy by 2030.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has linked the expansion of solar and wind energy generation directly with industrial growth, emphasizing that affordable and reliable electricity will give a strong boost to the industrial sector. Owing to his vision and focused policies, Rajasthan is poised to strengthen its position as the “Solar Energy Hub” of India.
According to the state’s Energy Department, several key initiatives are being implemented to ensure long-term energy sustainability. Under the PM-KUSUM Scheme, solar projects with a combined capacity of 11,000 MW will be established by next year. These projects will ensure daytime electricity supply for farmers, improving agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods.
Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), Rajasthan’s power distribution infrastructure is being modernized. Plans include setting up 63 new 33 kV substations, dividing 317 feeders at the 33 kV level and 3,744 feeders at the 11 kV level, and laying 27,963 kilometers of LT cable. Additionally, 1,300 agricultural and non-agricultural feeders will be separated to enhance supply efficiency.
Substations where PM-KUSUM components ‘A’ and ‘C’ have already been installed will be prioritized for issuing new agricultural connections. The government aims to provide daytime electricity to farmers across all districts by 2027.
Rajasthan’s three power distribution companies — Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Ajmer — have collectively strengthened the state’s power delivery network through technological upgrades. The state achieved a record peak power demand of 19,165 MW, which was met without any load shedding, marking a major milestone in efficient energy management.
A unified online billing system has also been implemented across all three DISCOMs, ensuring transparency and convenience for consumers. Between the start of the current government’s tenure and November 2025, 8.76 lakh household connections and 1.83 lakh agricultural connections have been issued. During this period, 327 substations of 33 kV capacity have been established, improving electricity quality in both rural and urban areas.
To accelerate solar energy generation, 914 solar projects with a total capacity of 2,077 MW have already been installed under the PM-KUSUM scheme, benefiting around 1.35 lakh farmers. Under the Prime Minister’s Free Electricity Scheme, 95,727 rooftop solar systems have been installed till October, adding 392 MW of solar power capacity.
With strong policy initiatives, modernized infrastructure, and rapid adoption of clean energy, Rajasthan’s energy network is advancing beyond distribution — toward self-reliance and environmental sustainability. The state is on track to become one of India’s most empowered and sustainable energy leaders in the coming years.
