Rajasthan High Court Pulls Up Police Over Public Humiliation

Jodhpur, May 7 (Udaipur Kiran): The Rajasthan High Court has strongly objected to the practice of police publicly humiliating arrested persons by circulating their photos and videos on social media.

Public Humiliation

A single bench of Justice Farjand Ali observed that arrested individuals must be treated in a humane, civil and lawful manner.

The court directed that persons without a serious criminal record or adverse history should not be subjected to public parading, semi-nude presentation or any other humiliating treatment under any circumstances.

The matter was related to a case from Jaisalmer district, where allegations were made that accused persons were made to sit in an insulting manner after arrest and their photos and videos were recorded and circulated publicly.
