New Delhi, August 21: A joint military expedition involving 35 soldiers from India and Argentina has set off to conquer the towering Mount Kamet, which stands at 7,756 meters. This peak, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is the third highest mountain in India.
The expedition was flagged off on Friday from the Manekshaw Centre in New Delhi by Lieutenant General Ajay Ramdev, the Colonel Commandant of the Army Service Corps and Director General of Integrated Training. The team is led by Lieutenant Colonel Chirag Chatterjee, comprising 25 soldiers from the Indian Army and 10 from the Argentine Army.
Experts believe that this joint climbing mission will not be an easy feat. The high altitude presents significant challenges, including a lack of oxygen, difficult terrain, and unpredictable weather conditions. The soldiers will be tested on their physical endurance, technical climbing skills, and teamwork throughout the expedition.
This marks the third joint mountaineering effort between the two nations. Previously, they successfully climbed Mount Aconcagua in Argentina in January 2025, followed by a successful ascent of Mount Kun in Ladakh, which stands at 7,077 meters, in August 2025. While sending off the expedition team, Lieutenant General Ajay Ramdev emphasized that such joint missions extend beyond mountaineering.
