Mumbai, August 22: Iran’s Consul General in Mumbai, Saeed Reza Mousavi Motlagh, emphasized the country’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Indian citizens, particularly those working in maritime sectors. He described the ongoing economic pressures from the United States as “economic terrorism” and expressed confidence that Iran would overcome these challenges, which have persisted for 47 years.
In response to concerns regarding the impact of conflict on Indian sailors and maritime personnel, Motlagh acknowledged the direct communication between Indian officials and their Iranian counterparts. He stated that Iran’s armed forces have been focused on minimizing casualties, even among enemy forces. He urged Indian citizens to avoid travel to affected areas, highlighting Iran’s concern for the safety of all civilians, including Indians.
Motlagh also addressed the current geopolitical situation in West Asia, noting that the economic challenges faced by Iran are also affecting India. He criticized the U.S. for its hostile actions towards Iran, which he claimed have been ongoing for over seventy years. He pointed out that the U.S. has resorted to economic measures as a means of aggression, stating that Iran has been resilient in the face of such pressures.
Regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s statements about the Strait of Hormuz, Motlagh criticized the confused and hostile mentality reflected in U.S. actions. He remarked that such ambitions are unrealistic and merely dreams that will not materialize.
