Udaipur, August 21: Former Union Minister Ashwini Choubey has expressed strong disapproval of the Congress party’s recent stance regarding the national song ‘Vande Mataram.’ He stated that India will not tolerate any disrespect towards ‘Vande Mataram.’ Choubey accused Congress of continuously weakening its political position and remarked that if the party has issues with nationalism, it should refrain from singing even two lines of the song.
Choubey emphasized that Congress is not being forced to sing ‘Vande Mataram.’ However, he criticized the party for suggesting that the singing of the song be interrupted to only include two verses, arguing that this will further weaken Congress’s political standing in the future. He questioned why Congress should sing even two lines if it is irritated by nationalism and patriotism.
He warned that Congress’s current political situation could deteriorate further, as the party is creating circumstances that undermine its political base. Choubey pointed out that if political activities can be conducted for gaining power, then there should be no need to interrupt the singing of ‘Vande Mataram.’
Choubey stated that Congress is free to sing whatever it wants and to work for the country’s welfare without any hindrance. However, he stressed that the responsibility of fostering patriotism and nationalism lies with everyone. He noted that instilling a sense of national pride in future generations is crucial for India’s progress. ‘Vande Mataram’ is not just a song but a means to inspire patriotism in the coming generations.
He referred to the year 2047, marking the centenary of India’s independence, stating that while the current generation may not be present, the youth of today will be responsible for shaping the future of India. The generation born today will be around 20 years old in 2047, making it essential to instill a sense of responsibility and patriotism in them.
Choubey also mentioned that the country will not accept any disrespect towards its eternal culture, which promotes the idea of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’—seeing the world as one family. He pointed out that an act regarding ‘Vande Mataram’ has been passed in Parliament with the consensus of the government and all MPs. If Congress chooses not to sing it or make a separate decision regarding it, that is entirely its prerogative.
