Neeraj Chopra Secures Second Place at Lausanne Diamond League

New Delhi, August 22: Indian star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra showcased his talent at the Lausanne Diamond League 2026, finishing in second place with a throw of 88.05 meters. Sri Lanka’s Ramesh Tharanga clinched the title with a throw of 88.14 meters, while Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured third place with a throw of 86.69 meters.

The competition did not start well for Neeraj, who managed only a throw of 83.54 meters in his first attempt. Ramesh Tharanga took an early lead by throwing the javelin 85.99 meters in his first attempt. However, Neeraj made a remarkable comeback in his second attempt, achieving his season’s best throw of 88.05 meters, briefly taking the lead. Ramesh, however, responded with a throw of 87.06 meters in his second attempt.

Neeraj’s third attempt fell short at 83.72 meters, allowing Ramesh to reclaim the top position with his impressive 88.14 meters throw in the third attempt. Neeraj fouled in his fourth attempt and did not throw in his fifth, managing only 82.15 meters in his sixth attempt. Ramesh also fouled in his fifth and sixth attempts, but his third throw proved decisive for his victory.

Earlier, Neeraj had won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow with a throw of 85.83 meters, though he admitted that he was not in his best form due to a return from injury. Ramesh had previously won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with a throw of 89.75 meters.
