Mumbai, August 21: During the ‘Maha Walkathon 2026 – Walk for Water’ held in Maharashtra, state government ministers emphasized the need to raise awareness about soil and water conservation. State Minister Indraneel Naik and Minister Sanjay Rathod urged the public to actively participate in this crucial initiative.
Minister Indraneel Naik addressed reporters, stating that the concept of water and soil conservation is not new in Maharashtra. He referenced the efforts of the late former Chief Minister Sudhakar Rao Naik, who initiated work in this area, keeping future challenges in mind.
Naik noted that the relevant department was established around 1991-92, and a corporation for this purpose was created in 1999, with Sudhakar Rao Naik as its first chairman. He highlighted that fertile land is essential for agriculture, but continuous soil erosion can affect land productivity. Therefore, it is crucial to safeguard soil and water resources for future generations.
Minister Sanjay Rathod also recognized soil and water as vital assets for both the country and Maharashtra. He stressed that the responsibility of water and soil conservation cannot rest solely with one government department. It is essential to create awareness among the public so they can understand the importance of these natural resources and contribute to their conservation.
Rathod underscored the significant role of youth in this movement, stating that their support is vital for building a developed India and Maharashtra. He encouraged young people to ask questions and understand the development around them, emphasizing that the historical and natural assets of the country and Maharashtra are a shared responsibility.
Regarding the ongoing legal dispute over the Shiv Sena election symbol, Minister Rathod mentioned that they would consider the Supreme Court’s directives. He added that under Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s leadership, they had initiated a movement aligned with Balasaheb Thackeray’s ideology, asserting that truth can be challenged but never defeated.
On the issue of Vande Mataram, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir stated that the law is equal for everyone. He emphasized that every individual has the right and responsibility to adhere to the law, calling the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram an opportunity for respect, noting that most people in the country are familiar with the national anthem and song.
