Jhalawar, Rajasthan: A major tragedy occurred on Friday morning in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar district when the roof of a government school building collapsed in Peepalodi village under Dangipura police station limits. Around 18 children were trapped under the debris following the collapse of the dilapidated structure.
The sudden incident triggered panic across the village. Local residents, along with the Dangipura police, immediately began efforts to rescue the trapped children. Several students have been safely pulled out and admitted to the government hospital in Manohar Thana for treatment.
According to villagers, the school building had been in a severely dilapidated condition for a long time. Despite repeated requests to address the issue, no action was taken and classes continued in the unsafe premises. Local police officials and administration teams are present at the site, and the rescue operation is being carried out on a war footing. Sources confirmed that four children have lost their lives in the accident, while the search continues for others feared trapped in the rubble.
The accident site is approximately 110 kilometres from the Jhalawar district headquarters and takes around one and a half hours to reach. Local administration teams are actively engaged in the rescue efforts. Four JCB machines and a large number of villagers are working together to remove debris and save the remaining children.
Initial reports suggest there were about 25 children present in the classroom at the time of the collapse. Four have died, while many others are undergoing treatment in hospital. Those critically injured are being referred to bigger hospitals in Jhalawar. The district collector has also left for the accident site.
