New Delhi, September 12 (Udaipur Kiran) : Iranian President Pajeshkian met with Indian President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on September 12. The two leaders engaged in discussions focusing on India-Iran trade, regional cooperation, and mutual interests.
Pajeshkian is in India to attend the BRICS summit, where he will participate in the 18th BRICS committee meetings scheduled for Friday. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed at the airport by Minister of State for Railways Shantanu Thakur.
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the strong cultural ties between India and Iran, emphasizing the friendly relations that bind the two nations. Both countries are committed to working towards shared progress and prosperity, according to a statement from the ministry.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with Pajeshkian, stressing the importance of ensuring stable peace and resilience in West Asia. During the discussions at the BRICS committee, Modi also underscored the need for freedom of navigation and the safety and welfare of seafarers.
This marks the second meeting between the two leaders in less than two weeks, following their previous encounter on August 31 in Bishkek during the SCO committee discussions. Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude to Iran for its regular and high-level participation in BRICS meetings, despite challenging circumstances.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged BRICS’s potential to foster infrastructure, innovation, collaboration, and stability among countries of the Global South. After their meeting, a statement was released, noting that the leaders discussed recent events in West Asia and reiterated India’s stance that stability should be achieved through dialogue and diplomacy.
India is hosting the 18th BRICS summit on September 12-13, with a theme centered on “Innovation for Construction, Cooperation, and Stability.”
