New Delhi, September 12 (Udaipur Kiran) : The Delhi government’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) department, in collaboration with railway authorities, has seized goods valued at approximately ₹5 crore at the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station. The confiscated items include around 25 tons of copper scrap and an additional 50 tons of various goods, all of which were being transported without the necessary documentation.
According to the GST department, they received information indicating that certain goods were being shipped via rail without required documents such as invoices and e-way bills. Acting on this tip-off, the department launched a special operation with the help of railway officials.
The shipment, which originated from Renigunta in Andhra Pradesh, arrived at Nizamuddin Station. During the investigation, authorities recovered about 25 tons of copper scrap, estimated to be worth around ₹3 crore. Alongside this, approximately 25 tons of mixed scrap, textiles, and other items were also found, valued at around ₹2 crore. The total estimated value of all seized goods is approximately ₹5 crore.
The GST department noted that the seized goods lacked the necessary invoices and e-way bills. They are currently conducting a thorough verification of the goods and associated documents, while also examining compliance with legal requirements related to the transportation of goods under GST laws.
Officials from the department emphasized that this operation marks a significant step toward enhancing monitoring of goods transported via both road and rail networks. Through stringent surveillance of railway routes and improved coordination with railway authorities, they aim to identify unaccounted goods, document irregularities, and potential tax evasion cases.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that her government will not tolerate tax evasion and revenue loss under any circumstances. The government aims not only to enforce actions but also to develop an effective system that ensures businesses operate with full transparency and that all due taxes are paid.
The Chief Minister further mentioned that monitoring will be intensified across all modes of transport, including railways, to strengthen GST compliance. Ensuring good governance, transparency, and the protection of government revenue are among the Delhi government’s top priorities, and strict action against those involved in tax evasion will continue.
