Across the country, the Ganesh festival is being celebrated with great enthusiasm. In Maharashtra, devotees are engaging in vibrant worship of Lord Ganesh, adorning homes and public pandals with attractive decorations, lights, and cultural programs. Offerings of flowers, sweets, and traditional prasad are being made by devotees seeking blessings.

According to Hindu beliefs, Lord Ganesh is revered as the deity of wisdom, prosperity, and auspicious beginnings. The ten-day festival will culminate on September 25 with the immersion of Ganapati during Anant Chaturdashi.

The public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi has historical significance, with varying claims regarding its origins. One belief attributes the initiation of public festivities to freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1893 in Girgaum, Mumbai, aimed at uniting people and garnering support for the freedom movement. The Bhau Saheb Rangari Ganapati Trust claims that the first public celebration took place in Pune in 1892.

In Mumbai, notable pandals such as Lalbaugcha Raja, Ganesh Gully, Tejukaya Mandal, and others are lavishly decorated, drawing thousands of devotees eager to seek blessings at Lalbaugcha Raja. The famous Siddhivinayak Temple has also been specially adorned for the occasion.
