Udaipur Women Face Trouble Due to Lack of Clean Public Toilets

Udaipur: Udaipur is known around the world for its beauty and tourism, but the lack of clean, safe and usable public toilets remains a major problem, especially for women. Highlighting the issue, Mewar Bachao Manch has started a new social campaign to check the condition of public toilets at different places in the city and bring the problems to the notice of the administration.

Under the campaign, members of the organisation are visiting public toilets and checking their cleanliness, maintenance, safety and usability. The team is also making video recordings where the condition of the facilities is poor, so that the concerned departments can be shown the actual situation.

Mewar Bachao Manch founder Abhishek Pandey said clean and safe public toilets are necessary for tourists as well as local residents. He said the need is even greater for women, elderly people and children. Poorly maintained or unusable toilets can cause inconvenience, embarrassment and health-related problems.

The organisation has demanded regular cleaning, proper maintenance and monitoring of public toilets across the city. Pandey said a clean and safe public toilet should not be seen as a luxury but as a basic public facility linked to people’s dignity.

The inspection campaign is being conducted under the leadership of Abhishek Pandey, Nidhi Gupta, Vinti Doshi, Chirag Meghwal, Dipesh Sharma and Dr Madhu Nahar. The team is checking facilities at different locations and recording the condition of toilets wherever serious problems are found.

Dr Madhu Nahar is also highlighting the connection between sanitation and health. She said using dirty and unhygienic toilets for a long time can create health problems. For women in particular, cleanliness and safety in public toilets are directly linked to their health, comfort and dignity.

The campaign is being seen as a continuation of Mewar Bachao Manch’s earlier social initiatives, including campaigns such as ‘Udaipur Ka Paisa Udaipur Mein’ and ‘Udaipur Ne Thana Hai, Cyber Crime Ko Harana’. This time, the organisation is trying to involve citizens through the message “Mahilaon Ka Nara, Saaf Surakshit Shauchalay, Haq Hai Hamara” during the Raksha Bandhan period.

The campaign poster also appeals to citizens to inform the organisation if they find poorly maintained public toilets in any part of the city.

The organisation said it wants to go beyond simply raising the issue and provide the administration with ground-level information and evidence so that action can be taken. With public participation and timely action by the concerned departments, the campaign could help improve an important basic facility for women and other citizens in Udaipur.
