New Delhi, May 1: The supply of cooking gas in the country remains normal despite disruptions in the supply chain due to tensions in the Middle East. On April 30, over 4.98 million domestic LPG cylinders were delivered, while 4.16 million new bookings were recorded, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.
The ministry noted that online LPG bookings have surged to 98%, with delivery facilitated through authentication codes sent to consumers’ registered mobile numbers, achieving a delivery accuracy of approximately 93%.
Despite rising global oil prices, petrol and diesel prices in the country remain stable, and there is adequate availability at all petrol pumps. However, oil companies are gradually adjusting prices for specific products like jet fuel and commercial LPG in line with international market trends, primarily for industrial and commercial use.
To combat hoarding and black marketing of LPG, strict actions are ongoing nationwide, with over 2,300 raids conducted recently. Government oil companies have intensified monitoring, resulting in fines imposed on 342 LPG distributors, with 73 distributors suspended so far.
The statement further revealed that 46 LPG distributors received notices, six were fined, and one was suspended on Thursday. The supply of cooking gas is fully normal, with no reports of shortages.
Additionally, over 43,200 piped natural gas (PNG) consumers have surrendered their LPG connections through the MyPNGD platform, reducing pressure on LPG demand.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas assured that necessary measures are being taken to ensure the continuous availability of petroleum products and LPG, especially in light of potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.
The government has urged the public not to panic-buy petrol, diesel, and LPG and to avoid rumors, relying only on official sources for accurate information. LPG consumers are advised to book digitally and avoid visiting distributors in person.
The statement concluded by assuring that all refineries are operating at full capacity, with sufficient stocks of crude oil, petrol, and diesel, and that LPG production has been increased to meet domestic consumption needs.
