Patna, July 27: In a significant move amidst ongoing protests regarding alleged irregularities in NEET examinations, the Bihar government has announced relief for the students and demonstrators involved in the agitation.
A statement from the Home Department released on Monday evening indicated that the government has provided several important assurances in light of demands for accountability in the examination system and reforms in higher education.
According to the Home Department, no punitive, retaliatory, or adverse legal action will be taken against individuals involved in the protests across Bihar until 6 PM on July 26. The government clarified that relief will be provided for cases registered against those participating in the movement during this period.
The press release stated that the legal process to withdraw all First Information Reports (FIRs), complaints, and show-cause notices registered during the protests before 6 PM on July 26 will commence immediately. Relevant departments and officials have been directed to ensure the process is completed swiftly.
Additionally, the government assured that all individuals arrested or detained in cases registered during this period will be released promptly. It was also clarified that no direct or indirect action will be taken against individuals named in cases registered before 6 PM on July 26 in the future.

Notably, prior to this announcement, the opposition in Bihar had been targeting the government over the arrests of protesting students, with Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav warning of a larger movement against the government.
