New Delhi, July 23: Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement, the government has initiated the process of establishing fast-track courts to ensure swift justice and stringent penalties for those involved in the NEET paper leak case.
Under the new ‘anti-cheating’ law, accused individuals will face prosecution under the Public Examination Act, 2024. Reliable sources indicate that the central government is in the process of setting up these fast-track courts in four states.
Those found guilty under this law could face up to five years in prison and a fine of ₹10 lakh. Currently, approximately four cases are pending in the High Court, and all hearings will now be conducted in these fast-track courts.
According to sources, the central government is set to formally request the respective states and High Courts to establish special fast-track courts for these cases, allowing for daily hearings and expedited resolutions.
As the NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) is conducted by the NTA, cases related to paper leaks and unfair means will fall under this law’s jurisdiction. So far, four FIRs have been registered concerning the NEET leak under this new legislation. Fast-track courts are being prioritized in the jurisdictions of the Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh High Courts, with two cases falling under the Bombay High Court’s jurisdiction.
The new law will also encompass other paper leak cases related to recruitment examinations conducted by UPSC, SSC, RRB, IBPS, and other entrance and recruitment tests organized by the NTA.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi expressed deep concern for the youth of the nation on the social media platform X, stating that fast-track courts would be established to ensure severe punishment for the guilty. He emphasized, “Nothing is more important than the welfare and future of our youth. Those who attempt to harm our youth’s future will not be spared.”
