Bhubaneswar, October 23 (Udaipur Kiran): A low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring rainfall and strong winds across several parts of Odisha in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar.

IMD officials said a cyclonic circulation currently active over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the south Andaman Sea, extending up to about 5.8 km above sea level, could lead to the formation of a low-pressure system on October 24. The system is likely to move northwestward and become more pronounced within the next 24 hours.
Dr. Manorama Mohanty, Director of IMD Bhubaneswar, said that easterly and northeasterly winds are bringing moisture into southern and coastal Odisha, leading to thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall and winds speeding 30–40 km/h at several locations.
During the next 24 hours, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Rayagada districts are expected to experience rain with thunder and lightning. The same weather pattern is likely to continue on October 24, while October 25 may bring light to moderate rainfall with occasional thunder in southern and northern coastal regions.
The IMD has further predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in southern Odisha and some parts of northern Odisha on October 26 and 27.
The weather department has advised citizens to stay updated on forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel during rough weather, and take precautions against lightning and storm-related hazards.
