Her smile, innocence, and the sparkle in her eyes have left many mesmerized. Madhubala’s acting had such magic that viewers became her fans at first sight.
As her death anniversary approaches this Monday, actor Jackie Shroff took a moment to honor her contributions. He shared a heartfelt tribute on his Instagram stories, posting a picture of Madhubala and writing, “On Madhubala Ji’s death anniversary, we remember her with much love and respect. Her memories and contributions to cinema will always remain alive in our hearts.”
Born in Delhi as Mumtaz Jahan Begum Dehlavi, Madhubala began her career at a young age due to financial struggles at home, starting work at just nine years old. She made her film debut with ‘Basant,’ but it was the 1949 release ‘Mahal’ that brought her significant recognition in Hindi cinema. Following that, she starred in several successful films, including ‘Fagun,’ ‘Howrah Bridge,’ ‘Kala Pani,’ and ‘Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi.’
Madhubala worked alongside many legendary actors, including Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Ashok Kumar, and Dev Anand. However, her portrayal of Anarkali in the historical film ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ in 1960 is considered her most memorable performance.
In addition to acting, Madhubala also produced films such as ‘Nata’ (1955), ‘Mahalon Ke Khwab’ (1960), and ‘Pathan’ (1962). Tragically, she passed away at the young age of 36 due to heart disease on February 23, 1969, with her final film ‘Jwala’ released in 1971.
