Heavy Rain System Continues in Madhya Pradesh, 12 Gates of Indira Sagar Dam Opened

Bhopal, August 26 (Udaipur Kiran) – The heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh has resumed, with a strong rain system expected to remain active on Monday. The districts in the Malwa-Nimar region, including Indore and Ujjain, are likely to experience heavy rainfall. Due to continuous rain, the water levels in several dams across the state have increased. The authorities have opened 12 gates of the Indira Sagar Dam. Additionally, one gate of Bhadbhada Dam and two gates of Kaliyasot Dam in Bhopal have been opened. On Sunday, three gates of Bhadbhada Dam and six gates of Kaliyasot Dam were also opened.

According to the Meteorological Department, within the next 24 hours, there could be heavy to very heavy rainfall in Alirajpur, Jhabua, and Dhar, with up to 8 inches of rain expected. A heavy rain alert has been issued for Barwani, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Mandsaur, Bhind, Morena, Singrauli, Mauganj, Sidhi, Panna, and Chhatarpur. Light rain and thunderstorms are expected in the remaining districts. On Sunday, heavy rain was recorded across the state, with 21 districts receiving significant rainfall. In Bhopal, the streets were flooded, and several dams and ponds overflowed. Rivers were also swelling, and people in some areas got stranded due to the water.

Bargi Dam Opens 9 Gates, Narmada River Rising

In Jabalpur, 9 out of 21 gates of the Bargi Dam have been opened, releasing 2802 cumecs of water. This has caused the Narmada River to swell, with water levels rising rapidly at Gwarighat and Tilwara Ghat. The Bargi Dam is currently 98% full, and the water release might be adjusted depending on the inflow. The dam level stands at 422 meters, and the 9 gates have been opened up to 1.55 meters.

Additionally, one gate of the Tawa Dam in Narmadapuram district has been opened to a height of 6 feet, discharging 10,000 cusecs of water. The current water level of the dam has reached 1163 feet. Moreover, four additional gates of the Kundalia Dam, located on the border of Agar Malwa and Rajgarh districts, have been opened, bringing the total to six gates releasing water.
