Heavy Rain Likely in 15 Districts Including Indore and Jabalpur

Bhopal, July 28 (Udaipur Kiran): Monsoon activities have intensified in Madhya Pradesh. The state has received 103% of its seasonal rainfall so far. Bhopal is experiencing intermittent heavy and light rain since morning. Small rivers in the state are swelling, and water levels in major rivers and dams are rising continuously. The Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for 15 districts, including Indore and Jabalpur, for Sunday. However, the heavy rain spell is expected to pause on July 29-30 but will resume with strong system activity from July 31.

Weather Developments:

  • On Saturday, flood-like conditions were reported in Panna, Shajapur, Vidisha, Raisen, Sehore, Dewas, Pachmarhi, and Agar-Malwa. Several villages were cut off from their main headquarters.
  • The Meteorological Department mentioned that the monsoon trough line is passing from Gwalior to Sidhi, merging into a low-pressure area ahead. Additionally, a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal is active, expected to move forward and bring more rain to Madhya Pradesh as it crosses central India.
  • Another trough line is expected to activate from July 31, leading to heavy rainfall due to a strong system.

Rainfall Statistics:

  • Madhya Pradesh has received 16.5 inches of rain, 3% above average.
  • The western regions, including Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Narmadapuram, and Gwalior-Chambal divisions, have recorded 6% more rainfall than average.
  • The eastern regions, including Rewa, Sagar, Jabalpur, and Shahdol divisions, have seen 1% less rainfall.
  • The districts of Seoni, Dindori, Chhindwara, Mandla, and Balaghat in the Jabalpur division have received the highest rainfall.
  • Bhopal division is also ahead in terms of rainfall.
  • The state has been experiencing heavy rain for the past 11 days, resulting in increased water levels in dams and ponds.

Dam Water Levels:

  • In the past 24 hours, Sehore’s Kolar Dam saw a 2-feet increase in water.
  • Indira Sagar Dam recorded a 3-feet rise in water level.
  • Water inflow is also rising in Bargi and Gopikrishna Dams.
  • Bhopal’s Upper Lake is now only about two feet short of its full capacity.
  • The Bansagar Dam in Shahdol, Tawa Dam in Narmadapuram, Kaliyasot Dam in Bhopal, and Mohanpura and Kundalia Dams in Rajgarh have also seen water level increases.
