Patna, July 28: In the lead-up to the Bankipur assembly by-election, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has intensified its campaign efforts. Tejashwi Yadav, the national executive president of RJD and the leader of the opposition in the Bihar assembly, asserted that there is a growing anti-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sentiment in Bankipur, with increasing public support for their candidate, Rekha Gupta.
Speaking to the media, Tejashwi stated that party leaders and workers are actively campaigning in the constituency. He mentioned that he campaigned on Monday and has a roadshow planned for Tuesday. Tejashwi claimed that the public is dissatisfied with the BJP and the state government, and this discontent will reflect in the voting results. He accused the BJP of failing to fulfill its promises made during the elections.
According to him, promises of creating millions of jobs and providing financial assistance to women have remained mere announcements. He highlighted a significant gap between the BJP’s words and actions, asserting that the public is ready to respond. Tejashwi expressed confidence that the people of Bankipur will teach the BJP a lesson and ensure victory for RJD’s Rekha Gupta.
He accused the BJP of vote theft, stating that youth, farmers, and women feel cheated. Tejashwi also criticized the state government for adopting a police-like approach, claiming it lacks a clear vision and development roadmap. He pointed out that the government has failed to address issues such as inflation, unemployment, and the future of youth, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the populace.
Tejashwi claimed that the BJP is aware of its precarious position and that its top leadership fears a loss in the by-election. He accused the BJP of making grand claims during elections without taking concrete steps to resolve the public’s core issues. Referring to student protests, he noted that the government had to make some decisions under pressure from their party.
He reiterated the demand for a judicial inquiry into the AK-47 firing incident and mentioned that if his government comes to power, they would consider providing pensions for arrested students, similar to the participants of the JP movement.
