Dehradun, May 24 – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted favorable weather activity across Uttarakhand, with a warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in several districts of the state. The changing weather pattern is expected to bring light to moderate rain, hailstorms, and gusty winds across both the Kumaon and Garhwal regions.

According to Vikram Singh, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat, Dehradun, Tehri, Pithoragarh, and Rudraprayag districts are likely to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder at many locations. Some other districts may also witness isolated showers.
Thunderstorms, Hail, and Strong Winds Likely in Hilly Areas
A weather warning has been issued for the hill districts of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh, where lightning activity, hailstorms, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h are likely.
In addition, localized heavy rainfall is expected in areas of Nainital, Pauri, Champawat, Rudraprayag, and Pithoragarh. The IMD has urged residents and travelers in these areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions, especially in landslide-prone zones and along vulnerable road routes.
Temperature Remains Near Normal
The IMD also provided temperature data for key locations:
Dehradun: 24.6°C
Pantnagar: 27.0°C
Mukteshwar: 13.2°C
New Tehri: 15.6°C
These temperatures are reported to be around normal levels for this time of the year.

With tourist activity typically high in May across Uttarakhand’s hill stations, the weather department has advised visitors to stay updated with local weather bulletins and avoid venturing out during intense weather events. Authorities are also monitoring the situation to mitigate risks related to flash floods and traffic disruptions.
