
Pallekele (Sri Lanka), July 27 (Udaipur Kiran): India secured a 43-run victory over Sri Lanka in the first match of the three-match T20 series. Suryakumar Yadav, captaining India for the first time, scored a brilliant half-century. Additionally, Riyan Parag played a crucial role in India’s win by taking three wickets in just eight balls towards the end. With this win, India has taken a 1-0 lead in the series.
Chasing a target of 214 runs set by India, the Sri Lankan team started strong. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis put up an 84-run partnership for the first wicket. Kusal Mendis was dismissed for 45 runs. Following this, Nissanka and Kusal Perera added 56 runs for the second wicket. Nissanka scored 79 runs before being dismissed at a total score of 140. After Nissanka’s dismissal, the Sri Lankan batsmen could not sustain their momentum and were bowled out for 170 runs. For India, Riyan Parag took the most wickets with three, while Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel each took two wickets. Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Siraj also claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, after losing the toss, the Indian team posted a total of 213 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Suryakumar Yadav, leading the team in a full-fledged role for the first time, played a blistering innings of 58 runs off 26 balls. Rishabh Pant contributed 49 runs. Both openers, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, gave the team a quick start, scoring 34 and 40 runs respectively.
