Kanpur, January 3 – In a bizarre incident that left locals stunned, a young man in Govind Nagar set his scooter on fire after failing to start it. The enraged youth poured petrol over the vehicle and ignited it before fleeing the scene. Firefighters arrived promptly and extinguished the flames, but by then the scooter had been completely reduced to ashes.
The shocking event took place in an open ground behind the office of former MLA Ajay Kapoor in Block-1 of Govind Nagar. According to eyewitnesses, the young man repeatedly tried to start his scooter but grew increasingly frustrated when his efforts proved futile. In a fit of rage, he extracted petrol from the vehicle, doused it, and set it on fire.
Residents in the area noticed the flames and quickly informed the Govind Nagar police and the fire department. While firefighters managed to douse the fire, the scooter was completely charred by the time they arrived.
Speaking about the incident, Station Officer Pradeep Singh of Govind Nagar police station stated, “Although the fire has been fully extinguished, the scooter is entirely burnt, making it difficult to trace the owner through the registration number. We are now relying on the vehicle’s serial number and nearby CCTV footage to identify the owner and investigate further.”
The police are also seeking information from locals who witnessed the incident and are hopeful that the CCTV recordings will provide vital clues.
