(Kiran News) – In a series of devastating natural disasters, more than 2,100 people have lost their lives across Afghanistan and Sudan, with thousands more injured as rescue operations continue.

Major Earthquake Strikes Afghanistan
On Sunday night, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 struck eastern Afghanistan, not far from Kabul. The quake caused widespread destruction in mountainous regions, demolishing homes, breaking roads, and cutting off several villages from communication lines. According to Abdul Jabbar Behir, head of the Afghan Media and Research Centre, at least 1,100 people have died and more than 3,500 have been injured in the disaster. Emergency teams are working around the clock to provide relief and restore essential services.
Sudan Suffers Deadly Landslide
Meanwhile, Sudan is facing its own tragedy after days of heavy rainfall triggered a massive landslide in the Marra Mountains of western Sudan. The Sudan Liberation Movement/Armed Forces reported that the landslide wiped out an entire village on August 31, leaving only one survivor and killing at least 1,000 people. The scale of the devastation has overwhelmed local authorities, as most access routes remain blocked and rescue efforts continue.
Death Toll May Rise
The combined death toll from these disasters has surpassed 2,100, and with many injured still in hospitals, officials fear the numbers could increase further. Both countries are witnessing immense challenges as they try to cope with the aftermath of these natural calamities.
