UPI One World Wallet Services Launched For NRIs, International Travellers by NPCI

UPI One World Wallet

The UPI One World Wallet service has been launched by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and international travelers visiting India. The service was first announced last year at the G20 summit hosted by India. It enables unbanked travelers in India to access and make payments via the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). The initiative was launched by NPCI in collaboration with IDFC First Bank and Transcorp International Limited under the leadership of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

Global wallet service UPI One has been launched

Announcing the service in a post, NPCI said travelers visiting India can use the UPI One World Wallet for secure digital payments and transactions with merchants and vendors across the country. This service eliminates the need for travelers to carry large amounts of cash or the numerous problems of exchanging money.

The UPI One World Wallet service allows foreign travelers and NRIs to download the Prepaid Payment Instrument (PPI) UPI app and make payments by scanning the merchant’s QR code with their smartphone camera.

You can also make transactions online using your UPI ID. According to NPCI, UPI One World Wallet can be used for shopping, hotels, restaurants, as well as online shopping, entertainment, transportation and travel bookings.

To use this service, users must obtain the PPI-UPI application from an authorized national issuer. After launching the app, travelers can load their desired amount in INR into the app. Unspent amounts will be transferred to the original source in accordance with foreign exchange regulations. This initiative aims to make traveling and staying in India hassle-free for international visitors.

How to access UPI One World services

  • Download the publisher app and log in.
  • Complete the KYC (Know Your Customer) process by physically verifying your passport, valid visa and other information at the issuing company’s counter.
  • Once the process is completed, UPI One World will be issued to the international mobile number.
  • Travelers can top up with INR by exchanging foreign currencies at the issuing counter or using a credit or debit card in the app.
  • You can then make UPI payments through the app.
