The OnePlus Open was launched last year as OnePlus’ first foldable smartphone. The foldable book model with a high-resolution all-round screen and triple rear cameras from the Hasselblad brand is expected to have a successor in 2025. OnePlus has not yet confirmed the existence of the rumored OnePlus Open 2, but a well-informed Chinese source has revealed the details. It has now arrived. The original OnePlus Open was launched in China as the Oppo Find N3. So we can assume that the OnePlus Open 2 will be launched in China as Oppo Find N5.
Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) posted on Weibo that Oppo and BBK-owned Vivo are working on a new foldable phone that will launch in the first quarter of next year. This phone is said to come with Qualcomm’s 4th generation Snapdragon 8 chip and a large 6000mAh battery.
Oppo’s next foldable device could be renamed OnePlus Open 2
OnePlus has rebranded the China-only Oppo Find N3 as OnePlus Open for international markets including India, perhaps adopting the same strategy for the second time. Accordingly, we can assume that the OnePlus Open 2 will come with a 6,000 mAh battery.
Last year’s OnePlus Open has a 4,805mAh battery with support for 67W SuperVOOC charging. So adding a 6,000mAh battery to the OnePlus Open 2 would be a significant improvement over its predecessor. OnePlus is expected to rely on the newly announced Glacier battery technology for this upgrade. If it reportedly has a 6000mAh battery, it could be the largest battery in a foldable phone. This will increase competition between OnePlus, Samsung and other folding manufacturers.
Additionally, Digital Chat Station reiterated its predictions about Huawei’s tri-fold device. The device appears to feature a dual-hinge design with a Kirin 9 series chipset and offer a “variety of new technologies.” However, nothing was said about the launch date of the device from the information.
Please remember The OnePlus Open was launched in India in October 2023 at a price of Rs 20.2 million. 1,39,999 only for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage variant. It has a 7.82-inch 2K AMOLED inner display and a 6.31-inch 2K AMOLED cover display. The device runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and features a Hasselblad-branded triple rear camera setup, led by a 48-megapixel primary camera.
