Peshawar, 09 September (Udaipur Kiran) – In a clash between Pakistani security forces and the Afghan Taliban near the Afghanistan border in Pakistan’s Kurram district, two key commanders, along with eight Afghan soldiers, were killed. At least 16 others were injured. This information was reported by Pakistan’s leading newspaper, Dawn, citing sources on its website today.
According to Dawn, the Afghan Taliban, supported by their soldiers, launched a deadly attack on a Pakistani check post in the Palosin area on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on Saturday morning. This led to a fierce exchange of fire between both sides. In the clash, eight Afghan Taliban members were killed, and 16 others were injured. The names of the prominent commanders killed were Khalil and Jan Mohammad.
As of the time of reporting, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had not issued an official statement on the incident. However, this is not the first time that Afghan soldiers have opened fire on Pakistani security forces stationed at the border. In the past, Pakistan has expressed its concerns to Kabul over such incidents. The Afghan Taliban, besides promoting terrorist activities within Pakistan, are now openly attacking forces along the international border.
Due to the tense security situation, trade between the two countries was suspended over the weekend. On Sunday, sporadic firing continued along the border. Additionally, in a separate attack in the Marghan area of Central Kurram on Sunday, one Frontier Corps (FC) officer was martyred, and three other personnel were injured.
