Lebanons Leaders Criticize Iran Over US Negotiations

Deban, June 6: The ongoing conflict in Lebanon has escalated tensions between local leaders and Iran. As Israel continues its operations against Hezbollah, Iranian officials have repeatedly raised the issue of including a ceasefire in negotiations with the United States. However, Israel has not agreed to this proposal.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed their anger towards Iran on Friday, criticizing the country for using Lebanon as a bargaining chip in its discussions with Washington. They emphasized that Tehran should cease its ‘proxy’ projects on Lebanese soil.

In a statement, Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard warned that peace in the region would not be possible unless Israel withdraws its troops from Lebanon. In an interview with CNN, President Aoun rejected Iran’s interference, stating, “It is not your (Iran’s) job to meddle in our country. I completely dismiss this statement, as our people are being killed, and our homes are being destroyed.”

Prime Minister Salam urged the Lebanese people to prioritize their national interests, asserting that Lebanon should not serve as a battleground for others.

Lebanon’s top leadership believes that Iran is using the ongoing US-Israel conflict as leverage in negotiations with Washington, demanding that any formal agreement extend to Lebanon. This criticism comes as the Israeli military has attacked several areas in southern Lebanon, warning residents of nine villages to evacuate. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has resulted in thousands of displaced individuals seeking refuge in these villages. Reports indicate that nine people have been killed in attacks across six locations in southern Lebanon.
