
Niger, 09 September (Udaipur Kiran) – A petrol tanker explosion in Nigeria on Sunday afternoon claimed the lives of over 48 people. According to the Nigerian newspaper Premium Times, the incident occurred around 12:30 PM on the Bida-Agai-Lapai highway in the north-central state of Niger. The Director General of Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba-Ari, confirmed the tragedy.
He stated that the disaster site was two kilometers away from the Dendo community in the Agaie Local Government Area. Abdullahi Baba-Ari explained that the explosion happened when a petrol tanker collided with a trailer truck loaded with passengers and cattle, traveling from Wudil in Kano State on its way to Lagos.
A crane and a pickup van were also caught in the blast. He confirmed that more than 48 people had died and over 50 cattle were burned alive. The director-general added that NSEMA’s Rapid Response Team and other local emergency management committees (LGEMCs) reached the scene. Many bodies remain trapped inside the vehicles.
