Beijing, June 6: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held bilateral talks with Myanmar’s Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe in the capital, Beijing, on Friday.
During the meeting, Wang Yi emphasized that over the past 76 years, both nations have exemplified mutual cooperation and support by adhering to the principles of Panchsheel. Since Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Myanmar in 2020, bilateral relations have entered a new phase aimed at building a community with a shared future. China is prepared to enhance high-level exchanges with Myanmar, strengthen political trust, and achieve more practical outcomes in constructing this shared future.
Wang Yi reiterated China’s commitment to the principle of non-interference and respect for the development path chosen by the people of Myanmar. He mentioned that both countries would advance high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen collaboration in areas such as earthquake rehabilitation, public welfare, trade, and investment. He also stressed the need for joint action against international crimes like online gambling and telecommunications fraud.
In response, Tin Maung Swe stated that Myanmar and China are friendly neighbors with a shared future. He expressed gratitude for China’s support in Myanmar’s development and affirmed Myanmar’s full backing of the four global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. He reiterated Myanmar’s strong adherence to the “One China” principle and opposition to any activities related to “Taiwan independence.”
According to Tin Maung Swe, Myanmar’s new government prioritizes its relationship with China, aims to advance the construction of economic corridors, and welcomes Chinese investors. Additionally, Myanmar will continue its efforts against online gambling and fraud while ensuring the safety of Chinese citizens, institutions, and projects.
