Lucknow, September 4: The health department in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, has been put on high alert following the detection of five swine flu cases, including one involving a jail officer. All infected patients are currently receiving treatment in Lucknow, and their condition is reported to be stable. In response to the situation, the district health department has issued an alert.
Dr. Lav Gupta, Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Barabanki, stated in an interview that the health department is taking the swine flu outbreak very seriously and has made comprehensive preparations at all levels. He emphasized, “We are fully prepared, and medications are available at all Community Health Centers (CHCs). Arrangements have also been made for children’s vaccinations at the district hospital. Additionally, all doctors’ leaves have been canceled, and all necessary advisories have been issued.”
Dr. Gupta urged the public not to panic, explaining that the symptoms are similar to those of a common flu and are treatable. He advised people to avoid crowded places, use handkerchiefs and masks, and exercise special caution, especially those experiencing cough or cold symptoms.
He provided details on the cases reported in the district, noting that two patients were found in the Bindoura and Urban Barabanki areas, both of whom are under observation and receiving treatment. Their condition is normal and not serious, but they are being closely monitored. Additionally, two patients from Haidergarh and Dariyabad, who reside in Lucknow, are also being treated, and their condition remains stable. A new case has emerged in Masouli, and a team is currently investigating it, with plans to check individuals who may have come into contact with the patient.
Dr. Gupta mentioned that the district administration has also issued advisories to the public. Separate wards for swine flu patients are being established at the district hospital and all CHCs. Testing and treatment facilities are available for individuals exhibiting symptoms such as fever, cough, or cold, especially if they show signs similar to swine flu.
