Udaipur: A girl who was injured after her hair got stuck in a spinning wheel while extracting sugarcane juice was successfully operated on at GBH American Hospital. The girl was safely rescued and discharged on Tuesday. The girl is now healthy.
GBH Group Director Dr. Anand Jha shared this information in a press conference on Tuesday. He said that the incident with the girl was very heartbreaking. The incident happened in Ambamata area on April 26 at around 1 pm and the girl was brought to GBH American Hospital by her family members late at night around 11.30 pm. The skin that came out with the girl’s hair was so damaged that it was not possible to graft it back.
As this was a challenging and complex case, the team of plastic surgeon Dr. Viml Mittal, neurosurgeon Dr. Shankar Ram Chaudhary and others at GBH American Hospital decided to operate after all the tests. The neurosurgeon found after the report that there was no damage inside the girl’s head. On this, burn and plastic surgeon Dr. Viml Mittal took skin from the girl’s legs and grafted it on her head during the operation. Four days after the operation, the girl was discharged on Tuesday after recovering.
According to Dr. Viml Mittal, it was a challenging task as the girl was underage and had met with such a big accident. Keeping this in mind, the girl’s surgery was performed. This complex surgery lasted for about three hours.
The girl’s mother said that she was present nearby on the day the incident happened. She never used to run the spinning wheel, but at that time her father was having food and she started extracting sugarcane juice. As soon as she turned, her hair got pulled into the spinning wheel. She also got pulled along with the hair. She was immediately pulled out after stopping the spinning wheel. The people present there showed promptness and rushed her to the hospital. They were very scared, but the doctors at GBH American Hospital started treatment at night and saved the girl. It was even better that she was discharged so quickly after treatment.
