Washington, May 1: A small plane crashed near Wimberley in Texas Hill Country on the night of April 30, resulting in the deaths of five individuals. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident, involving federal agencies.
According to Hays County officials, emergency teams were alerted around 11:05 PM about the plane crash in the area. The aircraft, identified as a Cessna 421C, had five people on board, all of whom were confirmed dead. The incident occurred near Wimberley, a small town with a population of approximately 3,000, located about 15 miles west of San Marcos and roughly 40 miles southwest of Austin.
Officials reported that police, fire brigade, and ambulance services promptly arrived at the scene, with rescue operations continuing until Friday morning. Based on current findings, there are no indications of a collision with another aircraft in the air.
A second plane was flying in the vicinity at the time of the crash and landed safely in New Braunfels. Authorities have not yet clarified whether the two planes were flying together or where they originated from.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified of the incident and will conduct an investigation. The identities of the deceased have not been released, as officials stated that names will be disclosed only after informing their families.
As the investigation progresses, officials have indicated that new information will be shared as it becomes available. The Cessna 421C is a twin-engine light aircraft typically accommodating six passengers, primarily used for private and business travel.
This marks the second fatal plane crash in Texas Hill Country in recent months, following a December incident near Fredericksburg involving a Lancair Legacy aircraft, which resulted in the death of its sole occupant. While small plane accidents are not very common, they are investigated by the NTSB, which prepares final reports by examining factors such as weather, technical failures, and pilot conditions.
