BJP and Congress Target Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Over Allegations of Intoxication

New Delhi, May 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress launched a sharp attack on Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday following allegations that he appeared intoxicated in the state assembly. Leaders from both parties pointed out that Mann is the same chief minister who claimed to be working towards making the state drug-free.

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed his astonishment, stating, “I am surprised that a person who has taken an oath to uphold the Constitution is speaking in a drunken state within the assembly premises.” He emphasized that both the assembly and parliament are temples of democracy and criticized Mann’s behavior as shameful.

Sachdeva further remarked that Mann, who claims to be working towards a drug-free Punjab, has instead pushed the youth of the state into substance abuse. He also accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal of attempting to introduce a similar culture in Delhi.

Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring questioned who would uphold the rules and regulations of the state assembly if the chief minister himself does not. He stated that if the opposition raises an issue, and if there is no truth to it, then Mann should prove otherwise. Such actions tarnish the image of Punjab and its people, he added.

Warring also alleged that the Punjab government, including Mann, is under pressure, suggesting that they are aware that the BJP could shake their government with the support of Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak. He noted that the situation is precarious, with the AAP not trusting its own legislators.

Opposition leader in the Punjab assembly, Pratap Singh Bajwa, remarked that in the 75 years of India’s independence, it is unprecedented for an elected leader to face such serious allegations without accepting them.
