New Zealand PM Luxon Unveils Fuel Crisis Plan Amid Tensions in Hormuz

New Delhi, May 11: Amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States in the Hormuz region, a global oil crisis is unfolding, prompting countries worldwide to remain vigilant. In response, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has outlined his strategy to tackle the impending fuel crisis.

In a video posted on the social media platform X, PM Luxon shared updates on the country’s Fuel Response Plan, emphasizing New Zealand’s preparedness for potential long-term fuel shortages. He stated, “I have just provided an update on our Fuel Response Plan to ensure that if there is ever a prolonged global fuel shortage, New Zealand is super prepared. I want to make it clear to those who may be concerned that the fuel supply in New Zealand is very good. Supply is coming in, and shortages are very unlikely.”

Luxon reassured citizens that the country is well-equipped, mentioning that even in a worst-case scenario, New Zealand would not face a significant diesel shortage for at least a month. He noted that following visits to Singapore and South Korea, New Zealand’s refineries have successfully identified alternative sources of crude oil, which can be processed and shipped to the country.

The Prime Minister highlighted recent agreements with energy suppliers, resulting in an additional 90 million liters of diesel stored in new tanks, providing an extra nine days of diesel cover. He emphasized the importance of planning for potential disruptions, ensuring that essential services, food, and commercial activities would be prioritized during any fuel supply interruptions.

Luxon concluded by reassuring the public about the current fuel situation, stating, “Please do not worry about this; we have a very good supply. However, rest assured that if we face any unpleasant events or difficult situations, we are well-prepared for that as well.”
