New Delhi, July 21: The political atmosphere in the capital has intensified following police action against students and recent protests. Led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Congress MPs staged a protest near the Prime Minister’s residence, expressing solidarity with the students.
Congress leaders have accused the police of using batons and tear gas during the student protests, resulting in injuries to several students. The party criticized the government’s actions, linking them to democratic rights and the voices of youth.
MP Ranjeet Ranjan claimed in a conversation, “A large number of students have been injured, with many hospitalized. Some students have even suffered broken limbs. This situation is a result of the government’s policies and requires a fair investigation.”
Congress MP Rajiv Shukla stated, “The party is raising its voice against the alleged atrocities on students and is demonstrating in support of the injured students and their families. It is the government’s responsibility to seriously listen to the concerns of the students.”
Rajya Sabha member Praveen Chakravarty called for a discussion on the entire incident in Parliament. He said, “The future of the country’s youth is the most important issue, and if a large number of students are taking to the streets to express their concerns, there should be a comprehensive discussion in Parliament. Dialogue is the solution to problems in a democracy.”
Meanwhile, MPs from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) also expressed concern over the protests at Jantar Mantar. MP Sulata Dev shared a video on social media showing the use of force against women and female students during the removal of protesters. She emphasized the need for sensitive treatment of the demonstrators.
BJD MP Santrupt Mishra echoed this sentiment, stating, “My party is saddened by the police action against students in Delhi. If students are peacefully presenting their demands, the government should listen to them and establish proper dialogue.”
The Aam Aadmi Party also targeted the central government over this issue. Party leader Gopal Rai accused the government of trying to suppress the voices of students and youth. Party spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar stated that the government should have opted for dialogue instead of confrontation, demanding serious discussions on students’ grievances and issues related to the education system.
Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka remarked, “The new generation is concerned about its expectations and future and is trying to express itself. Understanding the feelings and concerns of the youth is the responsibility of every government. The opposition is continuously demanding discussions on this issue in Parliament, while various political parties are voicing their opinions on students’ rights, democratic protests, and education-related questions.”
