Ranchi, May 12, 2025 — The weather across Jharkhand continues to remain unpredictable, with heavy thunderstorms and heatwaves affecting different regions simultaneously. According to the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, several southern and central districts are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms today, while eastern districts may witness heatwave conditions.

Rainfall and Storm Alert for 8 Districts
The IMD has forecast rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in the following districts today:
Ranchi
Simdega
East Singhbhum
Saraikela-Kharsawan
Bokaro
Gumla
Hazaribagh
Khunti
The department has also warned of lightning activity and issued advisories to avoid outdoor exposure during severe weather conditions.
Heatwave Conditions in 5 Districts
While some districts expect rain, heatwave conditions are likely in:
Deoghar
Dhanbad
Dumka
Giridih
Godda
A yellow alert has been issued in these areas, warning residents to take precautions against heat stress. Maximum temperatures in these districts have reached as high as 41.6°C, with Pakur, Godda, and Saraikela topping the charts.
Temperature to Climb by 2–4°C in Coming Days
The IMD has projected a steady rise of 2–4°C in maximum temperatures across Jharkhand over the next four days, further intensifying the heat in affected areas.
However, weather conditions are expected to change again post-May 15, with rainfall predicted in several regions, including Ranchi, by May 17.
Recent Rainfall and Weather Trends
Mandar (Ranchi) recorded the highest rainfall in the past 24 hours with 12.8 mm.
Despite recent rain spells, high temperatures persist in several districts, with heatwaves impacting public health, agriculture, and water supply in rural areas.
Early Monsoon Entry Likely in Jharkhand
Meteorologists anticipate that the Southwest Monsoon may arrive earlier than usual in Jharkhand this year. With the Kerala monsoon onset expected by May 27, Jharkhand could see its first monsoon showers by June 10, ahead of the typical June 15 timeline.
The monsoon is likely to cover the entire state by June 20, raising hopes for a good rainfall season, as predicted by climate experts.
