Jharkhand Launches Census 2027 Campaign

Ranchi, May 1: The Census 2027 campaign has officially begun in Jharkhand. On Friday, Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar initiated the state’s self-enumeration process at Lok Bhawan in the capital. During the event, he registered his personal and residential information on the portal, ensuring his participation in this nationally significant initiative.

Addressing the officials and media present, the Governor emphasized the power of data. He stated clearly that the progress of any state or nation is determined not by lofty claims but by solid and accurate data.

According to the Governor, the census is not merely a count of individuals; it serves as a comprehensive database reflecting family structures, living standards, economic conditions, and the true nature of society. Governments rely on this data to formulate crucial policies and plans for education, health, and infrastructure in the coming years.

Officials shared technical details about the campaign, noting that the first phase of Census 2027 will primarily involve ‘housing listing’ and ‘house counting.’ During this phase, individuals will be able to submit their details online using a mobile OTP from May 1 to May 15. Following this, census enumerators will visit households to verify the data.

The Governor appealed to the citizens, stating that the census is a collective responsibility. He urged residents to provide accurate and complete information whenever census officials or enumerators visit their homes, rather than feeling intimidated or hesitant. He stressed that providing incorrect information could deprive individuals or their communities of future government benefits, urging everyone to contribute accurate data to this national endeavor.

During the program, several senior officials were present, including Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri, Municipal Commissioner Sushant Gaurav, and Jharkhand’s Chief Census Officer Prabhat Kumar, who provided detailed insights into the entire digital process. The government’s goal this time is to maximize the use of digital methods to minimize errors in data and expedite report preparation.
