Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) registered their first victory of the IPL 2025 season, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 5 wickets in a thrilling encounter at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday. Powered by Sharul Thakur’s disciplined bowling and fiery knocks from Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh, LSG chased down a steep target with remarkable ease.

Sunrisers Post Competitive Total, But Falter in Defense
Batting first after winning the toss, SRH put up 190/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Travis Head played a blistering knock, scoring 47 off 30 balls, while skipper Aiden Markram contributed 33. Despite a good start, Hyderabad kept losing wickets at regular intervals, preventing them from building a massive total.
For Lucknow, Shardul Thakur was the standout with the ball, claiming 2 crucial wickets, while Avesh Khan, Digvijay, Ravi Bishnoi, and Prince Yadav chipped in with one wicket each.
Pooran, Marsh Steer LSG to Comfortable Win
Chasing 191, LSG suffered a shaky start but soon gained momentum thanks to an explosive unbeaten knock by Nicholas Pooran, who smashed 58 runs in just 22 balls, including 6 sixes and 3 fours. He was well supported by Mitchell Marsh, who scored 55 off 32 balls, setting up the chase with powerful hitting and smart rotation.
Lucknow achieved the target in just 16.1 overs, with 23 balls to spare, boosting their net run rate significantly and moving up to second place on the points table.
SRH Slip to Sixth Spot After First Loss
The defeat sees Sunrisers Hyderabad, who were previously leading the table, drop to sixth place. Playing on home turf, the team will now have to reassess their strategy as they prepare for upcoming fixtures.
