Mumbai, August 31: Singer Akriti Kakkar is making waves with her new song ‘O Jaanu’, which transports listeners back to the vibrant world of the 70s and 80s. The track features the lively disco music reminiscent of Bollywood’s golden era and has been created in collaboration with renowned singer and composer Palash Sen. The music video stands out with its unique presentation, showcasing both artists in various iconic roles alongside several beloved characters.
In discussing ‘O Jaanu’, Akriti expressed, “I wanted the listeners to connect with different emotions. For me, this song is a musical journey that will remind people of the old disco era. I believe music should have an impact that makes one feel different after listening to it. With this song, I aimed to blend the fun of the past with a contemporary presentation.”
She further added, “The purpose of this song is also to pay tribute to the artists from the past who have been cherished for decades. The tune and style reflect the pop, funk, and disco music of Bollywood from the 70s and 80s. The music is composed by Suvam Moitra, while the lyrics are penned by Geet Sagar.”
Akriti emphasized her desire to explore diverse musical styles, stating, “Whenever I create a new song, I strive to make it distinct from my previous works. I don’t want to limit myself to just one genre. Many advise artists to stick to a specific music style for their identity, but I disagree. For me, my voice is my style.”
In ‘O Jaanu’, Akriti portrays various characters, including Marilyn Monroe, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi, Basanti, Mastani, and Manjulika. The video features a blend of memorable moments from both Bollywood and Hollywood.
She concluded, “For a long time, I wanted to host a themed party based on famous Bollywood and Hollywood characters. When I got the opportunity to create a music video like this, I was thrilled. I embraced these characters not to compete with them, but to express my love and respect for them. It wasn’t easy to take on multiple roles one after another; each character required different preparations, but my team played a significant role in making the process smoother.”
