Ranchi, August 31: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has filed a criminal revision petition in the High Court against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) court’s order related to the alleged 8.86-acre land scam in the Badgai area. This petition challenges the order from a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The special PMLA court in Ranchi had rejected Soren’s discharge petition on June 8, prompting him to approach the High Court on Monday.
The case, linked to ECIR/06/2023, involves allegations of money laundering concerning the purported illegal acquisition and transfer of 8.86 acres of land in the Bariyatu area of Ranchi. The ED claims that the land was fraudulently transferred in favor of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
In his petition, Soren argues that he has no direct ownership of the disputed land and contends that the ED lacks substantial primary evidence in this matter. He asserts that the special court’s dismissal of his discharge petition was unjust, as it did not consider the facts adequately.
Soren is seeking the annulment of the PMLA court’s order and aims to be freed from criminal proceedings in this case. It is noteworthy that the ED had previously interrogated and arrested the Chief Minister in connection with the land scam, although he was later granted bail and resumed his role as Chief Minister. Following the rejection of his discharge petition, he has now turned to the High Court. A hearing in this matter is expected to take place soon.
