Ranchi, September 1: Aditya Sahu, the Jharkhand state president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accused the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Tuesday of diverting attention from issues related to alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and student protests by politicizing the Mines and Minerals Development and Regulation (MMDR) Act.
He urged Congress and JMM to first address the concerns of Jharkhand’s students and clarify their stance on the demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the recruitment examinations. Sahu claimed that the opposition’s agitation over the MMDR Act is more politically motivated than a genuine concern for mineral wealth. He alleged that Congress and JMM are opposing the Act due to fears of potential economic interests being affected by its provisions.
Referring to the alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations, Sahu stated that protesting students are demanding transparency in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) exams, timely appointments, and a CBI investigation. He accused the government of attempting to evade these questions by bringing the MMDR issue to the forefront. Sahu also raised concerns about the CID investigation, questioning why the government’s actions seem limited to newspaper headlines.
He claimed that information related to the investigation is emerging in bits and pieces, but it remains unclear when the investigation will reach the alleged main conspirators. Sahu also mentioned allegations of a ₹70 crore bid concerning the JPSC chairmanship, asserting that if these allegations are true, it is essential to investigate thoroughly, and the inquiry should not be confined to a lower level.
He demanded a fair and transparent investigation into the entire matter, ensuring that the roles of all involved parties are revealed. The BJP state president emphasized that students and youth in the state are continuously raising questions regarding employment and transparency in recruitment examinations, and the government must respond to these concerns.
He also called for public disclosure of the concrete steps taken by the government regarding promised reforms in recruitment examinations, pending appointments, and examination arrangements.
