Thailand Wins Thrilling Match Against Singapore by 6 Runs

Dubai, August 28: The Women’s Asia Cup 2026 kicked off on Friday at the Dubai International Stadium. The opening match featured Thailand taking on Hong Kong in Group A. Thailand secured a thrilling victory, defeating Hong Kong by 6 runs. They set a target of 121 runs for Hong Kong, who managed to score only 114 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs, falling short by 6 runs.

Hong Kong faced an early setback, losing their first wicket without a run on the board as Mariko Hill was dismissed without scoring. However, Kerry Chan and Yasmin Daswani steadied the innings, both scoring 28 runs. In the last five overs, Hong Kong needed 37 runs to win, with 5 wickets in hand.

Thailand’s bowlers delivered tight bowling in the final overs, restricting Hong Kong to 114 runs. The victory was particularly exciting for Thailand.

Onicha Kamchomphu was the standout bowler for Thailand, taking 3 wickets, while Fanita Maya and Thipatcha Puthavong each claimed 1 wicket.

Hong Kong won the toss and opted to bowl first. Thailand batted first, scoring 120 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their 20 overs. Captain Naruemol Chaiwai was the top scorer with 43 runs, hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes in her 31-ball innings. Other notable contributions came from wicketkeeper-batswoman Nannapat Koncharoenkae with 27 runs off 41 balls, Fanita Maya with 19 runs off 19 balls, and Afisara Suwanchonrat with 11 runs. Apart from these four, no other batsman reached double figures.

For Hong Kong, Marina Lamplo was exceptional, taking 4 wickets for just 11 runs in her 4 overs. Mei Yi Siu took 3 wickets for 37 runs, while Kerry Chan claimed 2 wickets for 18 runs in her 4 overs.
