Udaipur, August 31: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday caught an Assistant Engineer (JEN) of Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (AVVNL) red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 in Udaipur.
The accused, identified as Sagar Meena, JEN at the AVVNL office in Debari, was caught accepting the bribe from the complainant, according to the ACB.
₹35,000 Bribe Allegedly Demanded for Electricity Connection
ACB Director General of Police Govind Gupta said the Udaipur unit received a complaint alleging that Meena was demanding money for providing a domestic electricity connection to the complainant’s under-construction house in Kham Ki Madri village.
The complainant had applied online through e-Mitra for a domestic electricity connection. On August 18, 2026, Meena and a lineman, Premji, visited the site and conducted a survey. They informed the complainant that a distribution point (DP) and electricity poles would have to be installed for the connection.
According to the complaint, Meena initially demanded ₹35,000 over and above the official demand amount as “expenses”. When the complainant met him with a friend, the alleged bribe demand was reduced to ₹15,000. The complainant was allegedly told that the file would not be processed until the money was paid.
₹5,000 Already Taken During Verification
The ACB verified the alleged demand, during which the bribe demand by Meena was confirmed.
During the verification process, the accused allegedly accepted ₹5,000 from the complainant at his office for the electricity connection. It was decided that the remaining ₹10,000 would be paid later.
Following this, a trap operation was organised under the supervision of ACB Deputy Inspector General of Police Dr Rameshwar Singh and the direction of Udaipur Additional Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar. A team led by Police Inspector Ramsumer Meena caught Sagar Meena red-handed while allegedly accepting the remaining ₹10,000 in cash from the complainant at his office.
Searches Underway at Udaipur and Banswara Properties
Under the supervision of ACB Additional Director General of Police Smita Srivastava and Inspector General S. Parimala, detailed searches are being conducted at the accused’s residential house and flat in Udaipur and Banswara.
The ACB is also questioning the accused and will register a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act before proceeding with further investigation.
ACB Issues Public Advisory
The ACB said that if a case, preliminary inquiry or other proceedings are registered against any person, the person can directly contact the ACB and submit their side or clarification.
The bureau said that detailed analysis of such explanations before taking a decision during investigation is part of its working procedure. The information is important in view of the possibility of people becoming victims of fraud in the name of ACB action.
