Rajasthan is set to experience a sharp rise in temperatures and potential heatwave conditions in the first week of April, according to the latest forecast by meteorological experts. While cool northern winds have brought temporary relief over the past few days, weather models indicate that hot, dry westerly winds will soon dominate, significantly intensifying the summer heat.

Clear Skies and Drop in Temperature Across Cities
On Thursday, several cities in Rajasthan including Jaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, and Sikar recorded a mild drop in maximum temperatures due to clear skies and cool surface-level winds. The daytime heat eased slightly, giving some respite from the harsh sun.
-
Dholpur and Kota continued to sizzle with temperatures hitting 40.6°C and 40.2°C, respectively — the highest in the state.
-
In contrast, western cities like Jaisalmer (33.1°C), Barmer (35.4°C), and Jodhpur (35.3°C) recorded lower-than-average maximum temperatures.
-
Surprisingly, Jaipur recorded 36.2°C, surpassing Barmer and Jaisalmer in daytime heat.
April Heatwave Alert: Westerlies to Trigger Intense Heat
Meteorologists forecast a shift in wind direction around April 3–4, with westerly winds likely to replace the current northern airflow. This change is expected to elevate daytime temperatures rapidly, potentially leading to heatwave conditions in multiple districts, especially in eastern Rajasthan.
“From April’s first week, we may see a sustained rise in temperatures as wind patterns shift,” experts stated. “Daytime highs could soar across eastern and central parts of the state.”
Northern Winds to Keep Temperatures in Check—For Now
Until April 1, the prevailing cold winds from North India are expected to continue affecting Rajasthan along with Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Haryana, keeping maximum temperatures relatively under control.
Key Weather Highlights:
-
Clear skies prevailed across most districts with mild to moderate winds in Jaipur, Ajmer, Bikaner, and Jodhpur during the evening.
-
Pleasant late-night breezes were reported from cities like Udaipur, Sikar, Jaipur, and Dholpur.
-
Eastern districts including Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, Pilani, and Churu recorded above-average temperatures, while western Rajasthan remained relatively cooler.
