Udaipur, April 15 (Udaipur Kiran): India’s upcoming Census 2027 will be conducted with extensive use of digital technology to ensure greater accuracy, transparency, and efficiency. District Collector and Principal Census Officer Gaurav Agrawal has issued directions to all officials to ensure the successful execution of the first phase, which includes house listing and housing enumeration.

First Phase from May 1
In Rajasthan, the first phase of Census 2027 will begin on May 1, 2026, and continue until June 15, 2026. It will include two key processes. Self-enumeration will be conducted from May 1 to May 15, followed by fieldwork by enumerators from May 16 to June 14.
Self-Enumeration सुविधा for Citizens
For the first time, citizens will have the option to complete self-enumeration from home through a dedicated web portal. Between May 1 and May 15, families can submit their details online in a simple process that takes around 15–20 minutes. The portal will be available in multiple languages, including Hindi, English, and 14 regional languages.
After completing the process, a unique self-enumeration ID will be sent via mobile or email. This ID can be shown to enumerators during their visit for quick verification.
Instructions for Government Staff
The District Collector has directed all government officials and employees in the district to first complete self-enumeration for their own families. The administration believes this initiative will set an example and encourage wider public participation in this national exercise.
District Census Officer and Additional District Collector (Administration) Deependra Singh Rathore said that district and block-level officials will complete self-enumeration through the portal on May 1, 2026. Special camps will also be organised at block level and key locations to facilitate the process.
Importance of Census
The Census is one of the most important administrative exercises in the country, collecting comprehensive social, economic, and demographic data of citizens. These figures help the central and state governments plan development programmes, infrastructure, education, healthcare, housing, employment, and social welfare schemes.
Field Trainers’ Training Begins
The first phase of training for field trainers for Census 2027 began on Wednesday at the Pandit Deendayal Auditorium of the Municipal Corporation. A total of 37 field trainers from five municipalities and tehsil levels are participating in the three-day programme.
The second phase of training will be held from April 20 to April 22 for 36 field trainers. District Census Officer Deependra Singh Rathore said that these trainers will play a crucial role, as they will further train 3,381 enumerators and 588 supervisors across 3,685 blocks in the upcoming census operations.
Officials present during the session included Sub-Divisional Census Officer and Joint Director of Economics and Statistics Department Puneet Sharma, District Coordinator from Census Directorate Jaipur Mahendra Kumar Meena, Assistant Director Rajendra Khatik, and Master Trainer Banwari Lal Bumbaria.
