Delhi Weather Update : The biting cold continues to grip Delhi-NCR, with residents braving freezing temperatures and dense fog. On Wednesday, although the sun provided some relief, the impact of north-western winds brought the minimum temperature in Delhi down to 7.4°C, with dense fog lingering in many areas.

Cold Wave Forecast
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature is expected to drop further and could reach 5°C by Friday. A new western disturbance is expected to bring a shift in weather patterns later this week.
Dense Fog Alert
The IMD has issued an alert for dense fog across Delhi-NCR, anticipating a significant chill in the coming days. On Thursday, the maximum temperature is expected to reach 21°C, while the minimum temperature will remain around 5°C, intensifying the cold. The wind speed is forecasted to be between 2 to 6 km/h, which will lead to further foggy conditions. The department has issued an orange alert for Thursday and a yellow alert for Friday.
In addition to Delhi, states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand are also experiencing severe cold. Early morning on Wednesday, dense fog blanketed the city, with visibility dropping to near zero between 5:30 and 6:00 AM, particularly at the Palam weather station.
Cold Days Ahead
The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) recorded an air quality index (AQI) of 324 (‘very poor’) at 9 AM on Wednesday. Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet, explained that the ongoing north-western winds are contributing to the cold, making even sunny days feel colder. He indicated that despite the sunlight, the chilly winds will keep the maximum temperature lower, while the minimum temperature will continue to dip. A slight increase in temperature is expected by Saturday due to a new western disturbance moving in.
Weather Change Expected This Weekend
Palawat further noted that by the weekend, the winds will slow down, but the skies will remain cloudy over Delhi-NCR and other plains, accompanied by light rain. Although the minimum temperature is expected to rise, the maximum temperature will stay low. IMD forecasts indicate that Thursday will have cloudy skies, with some cloud movement on Friday. By Saturday, clear skies are expected, but Sunday will bring a shift in weather, with light rain in Delhi-NCR due to the western disturbance. Rain is expected to continue on Monday, followed by clear skies on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The weather changes over the weekend could bring some relief from the intense cold but will also contribute to the ongoing fog and chilly conditions.
