New Delhi: Newly appointed national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Scheduled Tribe (ST) Morcha and Udaipur MP Dr Mannalal Rawat formally assumed charge at a ceremony held in Delhi.
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey, National Organiser V. Satish, former national president Sameer Oraon, Union Minister Savitri Thakur, MP Nagendra, Mukesh Bhai Rathwa and office in-charge Pradeep Kanojia, along with senior BJP leaders, office-bearers and workers, were present at the ceremony.
Tribal Community Moving Towards Mainstream Development: Rawat
Addressing the gathering, Dr Mannalal Rawat said the country is rapidly changing under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the tribal community is firmly progressing towards the mainstream of development.
He said that along with development, special attention is now being given to the preservation of heritage and culture. The government is working with a “saturation” approach to ensure that members of the tribal community receive the full benefits of government schemes.
Rawat highlighted initiatives such as Tribal Pride Day, programmes related to Bhagwan Birsa Munda and development initiatives in tribal areas. He said the goal is to ensure the full participation of the tribal community in building a developed India by 2047.
Tribal Development Given Priority: Durgadas Uikey
Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Durgadas Uikey said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has played an important role in taking Central Government schemes to the last person.
He praised former national president Sameer Oraon for his contribution towards strengthening the ST Morcha. Uikey said the BJP government has prioritised the development of the tribal community and has undertaken special efforts to expand housing, electricity, water and other basic facilities in tribal areas.
Tribal Representation Has Increased: Jual Oram
Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said the tribal community has received important representation in the Central Government.
He said the Narendra Modi government has made a major effort to bring members of the tribal community into the mainstream of the country. He noted that members of the tribal community are serving as the President of India, five Union ministers, and as governors and chief ministers in several states.
Oram said unprecedented work is being undertaken for the development and empowerment of the tribal community under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He called upon party workers to ensure the active participation of the tribal community in the vision of a developed India.
Focus on Strengthening Tribal Outreach
BJP National Organiser V. Satish said the ST Morcha is one of the important fronts of the BJP and plays a key role in taking the organisation and government policies to the tribal community.
He stressed the need to strengthen the organisation’s reach to every tribal booth in the country, particularly booths with a large number of Scheduled Tribe voters.
Satish also described sickle cell anaemia as a serious health challenge facing the tribal community and stressed the need for extensive efforts towards its timely identification, tracking and prevention.
The speakers said continuous efforts are being made for the overall development of the tribal community with the focus on “development, heritage and service”. They said both the organisation and the government are committed to connecting the tribal community with the mainstream of development and ensuring that Central Government schemes reach the last person.
Rawat Thanks Party Leadership
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Dr Mannalal Rawat thanked the party’s top leadership and senior leaders. He said he would discharge the responsibility entrusted to him with complete dedication and commitment and work continuously to strengthen the ST Morcha across the country and expand the organisation’s reach among the tribal community.
On the occasion, former president Sameer Oraon felicitated former office-bearers by presenting them with shawls. The programme was conducted by Morcha general secretary Kali Ram Manjhi.
